Safari Overview

Kilimanjaro, the Crater & The Spice Island

This 9-day journey takes you through three of East Africa's most iconic destinations each offering a completely different and unforgettable experience.

Begin at Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya's finest parks, where elephants roam in the shadow of Mt Kilimanjaro (5,895m) Africa's highest peak. Amboseli rewards visitors with remarkably close encounters with elephant herds, as well as lions, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, wildebeest and giraffes. Every time the clouds clear on Kilimanjaro's summit, the urge to photograph these iconic animals against the snow-capped mountain becomes irresistible.

Cross into Tanzania and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on Earth. Standing at the crater rim as clouds hover below and a cool mountain breeze sweeps across, you'll understand why this is considered one of Africa's most rewarding destinations.

Then escape to Zanzibar Island the legendary Spice Island of the Indian Ocean. Settle into four nights of turquoise waters, pristine beaches, rich Swahili culture, unique architecture and world-class spice farms. A boat trip on the Indian Ocean rounds off an experience that perfectly balances safari adventure with tropical paradise.

Arrival at Amboseli — The Mountain Begins
After all the time you've spent planning and dreaming about going on safari, this is where it finally starts. Your guide will meet you and explain everything you need to know and answer any questions you might have. And then you'll go out on safari together.

It's time to explore Amboseli National Park one of Kenya's finest parks. While you're here, you'll be unable to take your eyes off Mt Kilimanjaro (5,895m): Africa's highest mountain might be in Tanzania, but the best views of the mountain are from Amboseli. It's a fantastic park for wildlife too. There aren't many places in Kenya where you can get this close to elephants, and the park is also excellent for lions, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, wildebeest, giraffes and more. Every time the clouds clear on the mountain's summit, you'll want to line up a photo of these animals with Mt Kilimanjaro in the background.

Experiences

What Makes This Safari Unforgettable

Three countries, nine days, three completely different ecosystems the sweeping plains of Amboseli, the primeval drama of Ngorongoro, and the turquoise paradise of Zanzibar all in one seamless East African adventure.
Elephants & Kilimanjaro
Amboseli delivers one of Africa's most iconic photographic moments elephant herds moving across the open plains with the snow-capped summit of Mt Kilimanjaro (5,895m) rising above the clouds behind them. No filter required.
Amboseli's Big Wildlife
Beyond the elephants, Amboseli is outstanding for lions, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, wildebeest and giraffes all set against the dramatic backdrop of Africa's highest mountain. The park's swamps draw enormous herds at dusk.
The Ngorongoro Crater
Standing at the rim of the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, clouds below and mountain air around you, is one of Africa's most humbling experiences. The crater floor holds the highest density of Big Five on the continent lions, elephants, rhinos, buffaloes and hippos in a single enclosed ecosystem.
Black Rhino in the Crater
Ngorongoro is one of the last strongholds of the critically endangered black rhino in East Africa. Spotting one of these rare animals on the crater floor a sight that has become almost impossible elsewhere is a genuinely special wildlife encounter.
Zanzibar's Indian Ocean
Four nights on Zanzibar Island the legendary Spice Island of the Indian Ocean give you time to truly exhale. Pristine white-sand beaches, turquoise clear waters, boat trips to coral reefs and sandbanks, and the sensory richness of Stone Town create a perfect counterpoint to the safari days.
Stone Town & Spice Farms
Zanzibar's UNESCO-listed Stone Town is a labyrinth of history Swahili, Arab, Indian and colonial architecture woven into a city that has been a major centre of Indian Ocean trade for centuries. Pair it with a spice farm tour where vanilla, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom grow wild, and the island reveals its full character.
Insider Tips

Prepare for Your Journey

🌅
Time the Kilimanjaro View
Mt Kilimanjaro is typically clearest in the early morning before clouds build. Set your alarm and get out early on both Amboseli days the summit view with elephant herds in the foreground is one of Africa's most iconic photographs and it disappears by mid-morning.
🌋
Dress for the Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater rim sits at over 2,000 metres. Temperatures at the top can be genuinely cold bring a warm layer and a jacket even in July. Once you descend to the crater floor, temperatures rise considerably, so dress in layers you can remove.
🏝️
July in Zanzibar
July is part of Zanzibar's dry season the best time to visit. Expect warm sunny days, calm seas and low humidity. The snorkelling and beach conditions are excellent. Book your boat trip early in the stay to have flexibility if the weather shifts unexpectedly.
🛂
Tanzania Visa & Border
You'll need a valid Tanzania visa to cross from Kenya. The EAC tourist visa covers both Kenya and Tanzania and is good value for this trip. Ensure all passports (including children's) are valid for at least 6 months beyond the travel date and that you carry all relevant documents for the border crossing.
