Insider Tips

Prepare for the Mara

🌅
Rise Before Dawn
The Mara's predators are most active in the cool morning hours. Early drives (6–8am) offer the highest chance of witnessing hunts, lion cubs at play, and cheetahs on the move before the midday heat.
👕
Pack Neutral Colours
Khaki, olive, tan. Avoid white and bright colours on game drives they spook wildlife. September mornings can be cool; bring a light fleece for dawn drives and lighter layers for the warm afternoons.
📷
Bring a Long Lens
A 300–500mm lens transforms Mara sightings into stunning portraits. The open plains mean you can often predict animal movement your guide will position you for the perfect shot.
🗓️
September is Peak Season
Your trip falls during the height of the Great Migration. Wildebeest river crossings at the Mara River are at their most frequent — ask your guide to position you for this bucket-list moment.
